• Reflect some of the ways that you want to assess your students, i.e. monitor their level of understanding what you're teaching.

I will use both formative assessment ( during class activities ) and summative assessment (after teaching modules) during the course of my teaching. Formative assessment will include monitoring the answering of review questions at end of each section, for homework as well as adding a twist to the homework of writing key terms and their denotative definitions for each section. I will continue the process of asking the students to also write the connotative definition to each key term. This will provide a valuable insight to each student true understanding of the key terms. I will also probe for understanding throughout the class instruction by asking open ended questions to all students, particularly if there seems to be confusion in their homework.
  • I will also review quizzes and tests to identify areas of misunderstanding that the students may share, which may identify areas where I can improve the curriculum. If I identify these teaching lapses in my quizzes, I can review the information in a different way with the students before tests are given.

Describe your grading policy, i.e. how you will assign scores to represent performance. Explain why you are choosing to use this method. If you are continuing your CT's grading policy, explain what you feel are the strengths and weaknesses of this approach.

  • I will follow my CT's grading policy to provide consistency for the students as well as not bring a burden on my CT. Mainly it is for the students as I am beginning my teaching in the middle of their term. I particularly like his way of grading homework as completed well, partially completed, or not done. This will allow me the time to concentrate on my summative assessment of the homework, which will allow me to gauge the efficacy of my instruction. I was told that Pawtucket allows homework to be a maximum of 15% of a student's grade. Tests, classwork and quizzes will comprise the remaining 75% of the grade. I will inquiry on how my CT weighs that portion.
